9 Strange Animals and Where to Go to See them

The pangolin is a very strange animal that looks a bit like an armored anteater. They are also known as "scaly anteaters." Surprisingly, though, they are connected to dogs, cats, and even seals more than they are to armadillos.

You can find a lot of strange animals in Madagascar. Most of them can't be found anywhere else in the world. The aye-aye, which has big eyes, teeth that are always getting longer, and long arms, is a great example of this.

The capybara is the world's biggest living rodent, and you can find it all over Latin America. Most of the time, they live near sources of water in big groups that can have up to 100 pets during the dry season.

3. Capybara (South America)

This lizard lives only in the Northern and Western Cape areas of South Africa. It looks a lot like a small dragon. When they roll up to protect themselves from danger, which is how they got their name, this similarity is especially clear.

These amazing birds can only be found in the Galapagos Islands. Their wingspan is almost two and a half meters, and they have been seen flying as high as 2,500 meters above sea level.

5. Magnificent frigatebird (Galapagos Islands)

These cat-like animals can measure up to 4ft in length and researchers believe they are most closely related to the more familiar mongoose and other animals like it, although they look a lot like cougars.

6. Fossa (Madagascar)

Sloths live in the trees in Latin American countries like Panama, Brazil, and many more. They are known for moving very slowly. From some views, it looks like they're smiling, but their faces look a little weird.

These bugs are actually different kinds of wasps, which is confusing. The females don't have wings and are hairy, making them look a lot like ants. In Chile, some examples have been found that are black and white.

8. Velvet ants (South America)

We might love these strange and beautiful animals the most on this list. The tiny pink fairy armadillo lives only in central Argentina. They are so uncommon that scientists haven't even been able to decide if they are endangered or not.
